After a day's respite from the sweltering heat, temperature rose marginally in several areas of Odisha today.
Rain and thundershower in several areas had brought major relief from the scorching heat in most parts of Odisha yesterday by pushing the mercury down.
As the temperature increased in several areas today, the mercury breached the 40 degree celsius mark in six places. Only two places had recorded temperatures above 40 degrees yesterday.
In Bhubaneswar, the maximum temperature rose to 36.8 degrees from 35 degree celsius yesterday, the Met office here said.
In neighbouring Cuttack city too the mercury climbed to 37.4 degree celsius from 35 degrees yesterday, it said.
Titlagarh, where the maximum temperature stood at 40 degree celsius yesterday recorded 42.5 degrees during the day to become the hottest place in the state.
Sambalpur was the close second recording 42.2 degrees, while the mercury stood at 42 degree celsius at Jharsuguda, 41.6 degree celsius at Hirakud, 41 degree celsius at Bhawanipatna and 40.1 degree celsius at Angul, it said.
Sunstroke has claimed three lives in the state so far this summer with casualties reported from Bargarh, Angul and Balangir districts, the Special Relief Commissioner's office said.
