Director Terence Nance has exited "Space Jam 2", the long-awaited sequel to 1996 classic.
The project, which is a joint collaboration between Warner Bros. and SpringHill Entertainment, will feature professional basketball player LeBron James in the lead.
According to Deadline, Nance's departure was "amicable" and he has been replaced by "Girls Trip" director Malcolm D Lee.
"Avengers: Endgame" star Don Cheadle recently boarded the film's cast which also includes Sonequa Martin-Green.
The details of Cheadle's character have not been revealed. Martin-Green, best known for starring in "The Walking Dead", will play the wife of James' character.
The long-anticipated follow-up to the Michael Jordan-Bugs Bunny-starrer hit will be produced by "Black Panther" helmer Ryan Coogler.
James, Duncan Henderson, and Maverick Carter of SpringHill are also producing. Justin Lin, Sev Ohanian and Jamal Henderson will serve in the capacity of executive producers.
"Space Jam"was a live-action/animated film that mashed up Looney Tunes characters with basketball stars and aliens. Bugs Bunny is expected to return for the sequel.
