The incident took place at around 4:30 P.M. Yesterday on Netaji Subhash Chandra Marg when the businessman, identified as Nilesh Shah, had stopped in his car at a traffic signal on his way to delivering the diamonds at a jeweller's in Daryaganj.
"Suddenly, someone knocked at his car's window and told him that his money had fallen down. As the victim alighted from his car to look for the money, someone opened the other door of the car and made off with his bag, wallet and mobile phone," said a senior police official.
Although police was not sure of the exact value of the diamonds, rough estimates suggest they were worth more than Rs 1 crore. A case of theft has been registered in this regard at Daryaganj police station and further inquiries are on.
