Hamirpur MP and BCCI president Anurag Thakur today met Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and requested himto expedite the laying of foundation stone for Central University in Dehra in Kangra district.
"The meeting withPrakash Javadekar was to request him to speed up the process for setting up the headquarters at Dehra as per the original notification," Thakur said.
Thakur was accompanied by Ravinder Ravi, former minister and MLA from Dehra, andRandhir Sharma, MLA from Bilaspur.
The three-time MP further added that Javadekar has assured him of quick action into the matter.
"I am glad to inform thatPrakash Javadekar has given positive assurance that he will look into the matter sympathetically and expedite the decision," he said.
Thakur attacked the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government for the stagnant situation.
"In April 2010, under the aegis of the UPA government at the Centre, Himachal Central University was allotted 70 per cent campus and headquarters in Dehra and 30 per cent in Dharamshala," he said, adding that "the Congress-led Himachal government took charge in December, 2012 and since then, has made every attempt to reverse the share of allocation done by the UPA government."
"This attitude of the state government has led to the delay in the construction of permanent campus of Himachal Central University, leading the students at a temporary campus at Shahpur," he added.
Dehra in Kangra districtfalls under Hamirpur Parliamentaryconstituency represented by Thakur.
The Himachal government wants to set up the Central University in Dharamshala, the administrative headquarters of the district. The matter is hanging for the past eight years.
