The elephant that was electrocuted
at Vettukaadu near Gudalur had eaten the "Uppu" (a fertiliser used in the farm), according to a Veterinary surgeon who conducted the post mortem on it.
The Official Dhanabal also said that the elephant was in the advanced stage of pregnancy. "it would have delivered a calf next month" he said.
Police should investigate if the elephant has been actually killed by the farm owner, who is absconding, or it was electrocuted
He said the farm had been developed very much in the forest area, even according to revenue records, and it was not private land, and it was encroached land.
The farm was in the area which the elephant herd used as "their regular path way",and the forest officials should not have allowed to establish the farm and also electric fence, powered by solar power.
Ramaswamy, the Tribal Chief, said officials should hold an impartial investigation into the death of a pregnant elephant.
He also warned that the tribals would be forced to hold an agitation if officials did not hold a proper investigation into the death of the elephant.
Twelve monkey were poisoned to death in the same area two years back.
