A day after "The Mindy Project" aired its season 5 finale, Hulu has announced that the show has been picked up for sixth and final season on the streaming service.
The Mindy Kaling-created comedy has been renewed for one last season which is scheduled to premiere in September, though episode count is unknown, reported Ace Showbiz.
"It has been an honor and a joy to work with Mindy and the entire creative team behind 'The Mindy Project'. This series has been part of Hulu since we launched the service and, thanks to Mindy's incredibly unique voice and vision, has remained one of our most popular and beloved series over the past five years," Hulu Head of Content Craig Erwich says.
"While we can't wait to see what Mindy has in store for what will undoubtedly be a fantastic sixth and final season, we know 'The Mindy Project' will live on as fans will continue to watch, discover and relive all of the best moments from the complete series on Hulu."
Creator and star Kaling also confirmed the final season report on her Twitter account.
"It's true! Our 6th season will be our last but it'll be lit AF."
She adds, "Save your sour straws, bear claws & chicken wings for Sept #TheMindyProject."
Originally premiering on FOX in 2012, the single camera comedy was then resurrected by Hulu following its cancellation after 3 seasons.
The show's season five marked its 100th episode and is currently airing in syndication on Freeform and VH1.
Kaling stars on the series as the titular character, Mindy Lahiri, a skilled OB/GYN navigating the tricky waters of both her personal and professional life, as she pursues her dreams of becoming the perfect woman, finding the perfect man and getting her perfect romantic comedy ending.
Also starring on the series are Ed Weeks (Jeremy Reed), Ike Barinholtz (Morgan Tookers), Beth Grant (Beverly), Xosha Roquemore (Tamra Webb) and Fortune Feimster (Colette Kimball-Kinney).
Kaling executive produces the show alongside showrunner Matt Warburton, Howard Klein, Charlie Grandy and Michael Spiller.
Meanwhile, Universal Television produces in association with 3 Arts Entertainment.
