The music of "Aei Maatite", an Assamese feature film showcasing the problem of witch hunting in the state, was launched here today.
The film's music has a predominant flavour of the Bodo tribals. It has been composed by eminent music director Bibhuranjan Choudhury while the lyrics are by the film's director Sitananth Lahkar.
"The instruments used in the film are very few with the siphung (flute), kham (drum) and serja (four-stringed violin) taking a precedence as the film is based against the backdrop of tribal Assam and I wanted the music of the people of the grassroot to come to the fore," Choudhury said.
The emphasis is on folk music and it blends easily with the film giving it a haunting quality, said national award- winning singer Tarali Sarma, who has sung a romantic track in the film.
"Choudhury has successfully created some unique and melodious tracks for the film and we hope people will like it," said Lahkar, who has written the lyrics and also directed the film which is scheduled to be released on October 6.
The first track is a musical-flow with the wind and the second is a Bodo song, 'Udang Ni Mela', sung by Jiten Basumatary.
The theme song 'Jujat Jayi Jivan' is sung by Namita Daloi, Lahkar, Smita Lahkar, Jina Rajkumari, Binayak Choudhury and Nishanta Bora.
Tarali Sarma has sung the fourth track--Bandha Duwar and the fifth is a the musical version of the theme song.
"Aei Matite" is a film that focuses on the evil practice of witchcraft and promotes scientific temperament and value of human life.
The feature film is scripted and directed by independent filmmaker, eminent theatre personality and retired Principal of Cotton College Sitanath Lahkar.
