Terming that no rule of law existed in West Bengal, Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan today alleged that the state government did not use central forces properly in the first phase of the panchayat elections.

"The way the panchayat elections were held yesterday, it seems that there is no rule of law in Bengal. Central forces were not used properly. Many Congress party workers were brutally beaten up during the election process," Khan told reporters here.

The WBPCC leadership has demanded re-polling in 15 booths of Sabong area in West Midnapore where it claimed that 12 persons were injured in violence.

It also accused the state government of violating the Supreme Court order by not deploying central forces properly.
