There should not be any delay in implementing border development plans and all such infrastructure projects should be fast tracked, Director General of ITBP Subhas Goswami said today.
Addressing a seminar on 'Border and Naxal Management Security Technology Summit India 2014', Goswami said several border areas are not easily accessible due to lack roads and other connectivity and stressed the need for building border infrastructure.
"To overcome our hindrances, it is crucial to implement a new land acquisition net for establishment of road connectivity in border areas when China has already developed rail, road network and infrastructure up to the border," Goswami was quoted as saying in a release issued by Security Watch India (SWI) which organised the seminar.
The ITBP chief said a large number of airfields should be built in border areas for maintenance of border outposts there.
ITBP guards 3,488 km the Sino-Indian border starting at a high altitude of 9,000 to 18,000 feet.
Speaking on the issue of Maoist violence, Director of Counter Terrorism and Jungle Warfare College (CTJW) Brig B K Ponwar said anti-Naxal approach has to be a simultaneous military socio, political, economic action.
He said if proper security training will be given to security forces, they can themselves turn into a primary weapon.
CIJW, situated in Kanker in Chhattisgarh, has so far trained 27,000 security personnel.
Director General of Indian Coast Guard Vice Admiral Anurag G Thapliyal said the 2008 Mumbai terror attack highlighted the lacuna in the country's coastal security.
He said synergised and well-coordinated efforts within various security agencies was the key to fool-proof security.
Additional Director General (Coastal Security), Tamil Nadu Police, C Sylendra Babu said highlighted the country's challenges in maritime security, piracy and armed robbery and maritime terrorism.
He said a number of coastal states were not ready to take on additional responsibility of coastal security.
