Three arrested for assault on girls in Odisha

Three persons were arrested today in connection with eve-teasing of three girls and assault of their male friend here, a senior police official said.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon when the girls were talking to their male friend on the road between Patia and Nandankanan Zoo. Two bike-borne youths allegedly passed some comments on them, police said.
The girls and the boy chased the bikers but they fled from the spot, they said.
However, some other youths, suspected to be friends of the two bike riders, reached the spot and assaulted the four, they said.
"They abused us and assaulted us. They beat up our friend too," the girls said in the FIR registered at the Nandankanan Police Station.

"While three persons have been arrested in less than 36 hours after the incident, investigation is in progress and some more arrests are expected to be made," Commissioner of Police Y B Khurania told reporters.
Stating that the police took the matter seriously and acted swiftly after receiving the complaint, Khurania said all those involved in the incident would be caught soon.
The arrested persons have been identified as Madhab Rout, Mrutunjoy Patra, both residents of Raghunathpur area and Biswa Ranjan Pradhan of Nandankanan locality, police said.
