Three arrested with poppy, cannabis in J&K

Three persons were arrested and more than 16 kg of poppy and cannabis were recovered from them in Udhampur and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.

The poppy was seized last evening after a police team from the Udhampur police station laid a checkpost on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway following a tip-off about the contraband being carried in a vehicle, a police officer said today.

The police partyintercepted a car, and during the search 16 kg of poppy was recovered from two people travellingin the vehicle, he said.

Rakesh Kumar and Riaz Bhatti were arrested on the spot and vehicle seized, he added.

In another seizure, the police conductedspecial checks at a bus stand in Kishtwar yesterday where they detained one person after 200 grams of cannabis was recovered, he said.

Investigation in the two cases are on.
