Three persons were killed and 14 others injured when a car rammed into an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction near Wadki village in Yavatmal district on Friday, police said.

The incident took place in the afternoon, they said.

"The auto-rickshaw was being driven on the wrong side of the road. It was going towards Hinganghat when a speeding car rammed into it," Prashant Gite, inspector of Wadki police station, said.

The driver of the auto and two women, all residents of Risora village in Maregaon tehsil, were killed on the spot, he said.

Fourteen others were injured in the incident and all of them were admitted to a government hospital in Ralegaon, police said.

"Two children and a woman are said to be in a critical condition," Gite said, adding that further investigation into the case was on.
