Three held with elephant tusks in Uttarakhand

Narendra Rawat and Rajendra Singh from Padampur area and Dan Singh Ungwal from Pithoragarh were arrested from Nimbu Chaur late last night with elephant tusks weighing 57 kgs in their possession, Divisional Forest Officer Narendra Singh said.

The accused were in a Tata Indica car when they were nabbed by special task force and forest department personnel, the DFO said.

The elephant tusks seized are worth nearly Rs 50 lakh in the blackmarket, he said.
