The three major power generation stations -- the Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (Vijayawada) with a capacity of 1750 MW, the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Station ( Maddanuru) with a capacity of 1050 MW and the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (New Polancha) with a capacity of 1750 MW remained totally shut down since Monday morning.
Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station's chief engineer J Sammayya said that electricity generation is zero due to the strike.
He said that during the day time, around five break downs in Krishna district were noticed and rectified by officials with the help of casual labour. Higher consumption is likely to cause several breakdowns during night time, he said.
He said that the average electricity requirement of the state is 11,000 MW but at present only 7,000 MW is available from the central grid or private power companies.
He said that 3,500 MW of power is being supplied by both the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Simhadri Power Generation Company which comes under the central grid and another 2,300 MW power is being supplied by private power stations.
