Thundershowers bring relief from heat in Bihar

In a relief to the people from sweltering heat, intermittent spells of thundershowers and thunderstorms at a few isolated brought down temperature in Bihar.
Indian Meteorological Department forecast said the rains would be fairly widespread over the state in the next 24 hours.
It also warned of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall at some isolated places in the state till tomorrow.
People in Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Purnia, Kishanganj, Supaul, Chapra and other parts of the state, cherished the pleasant weather which came as a huge relief from the oppressive heat.
"The minimum temperature in Bihar is currently two to six degrees below the normal temperature for this month of summer season. The rainfall will help the growth of fruits and vegetables and aid the farmers in preparing for the sowing season during the monsoon which is expected to hit the state around June 11 to 13," said a weather official from the IMD station in Patna.
About 2.2 centimetres rainfall in the state capital since today morning brought down the maximum temperature to 34.4 degree Celsius. The minimum settled at 22 degrees. This was in addition to 16.4 mm rainfall over the city since yesterday (8.30pm to 8.30am today).
Bhagalpur received heaviest rainfall (11 cms) in the state, bringing down the maximum temperature hovering around 38 degree Celsius to just 30.5 degrees. It recorded 24 degrees as the minimum temperature.
Gaya, which remained the hottest place in Bihar this season, witnessed around 4 centimetres of rainfall. The maximum temperature dipped to 28.1 degrees Celsius and the minimum went down to 22.7.
The industrial town of Muzaffarpur recorded 3.5 cms of rains. The maximum and minimum temperature here were recorded 28.4 and 23.1 degrees, respectively.
The northeastern parts of the state - Kishanganj, Purnia, Araria and Supaul were the coolest ones, with minimum temperature dropping down to 20.7 degrees in Supaul.
