Netflix announced that it has acquired the comedy series from NBC, and has preemptively renewed it for a second season, reported Deadline.
'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' had been expected to premiere in NBC's primetime lineup in the spring of 2015.
Fey re-teamed with former '30 Rock' showrunner Robert Carlock for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which casts 'The Office' star Kemper as an escaped cult member.
NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt said, "When the opportunity arose for Tina Fey and Robert Carlock to premiere their new show on Netflix with a two-season commitment, we decided this was the best possible scenario to launch this captivating new series.
Former '30 Rock' stars Tituss Burgess and Jane Krakowski will both appear in the new series, with Burgess playing a singer who rents a room to Kimmy.
Fey and Carlock's previous series '30 Rock' earned 16 Primetime Emmy Awards in its original run from 2006 to 2013.
