Former Union Minister Krishna Tirath, who recently joined BJP, today sought to align herself with the saffron party by invoking the image of an 'Akhand Bharat.
"India, the land of sant- mahatmas , gods and goddesses, has taught us to stay with unity and create Akhand Bharat. Delhi is a mini-bharat which has people from various regions of the country," Tirath said addressing a rally at Anand Parvat in Patel Nagar assembly constituency.
Tirath also referred to US president Barack Obama for appreciating "the youth of the country for their honesty and truthfulness" saying they hold the key to development.
Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, who also lent her weight to the campaign rally, sought to draw a comparison between Krishna Tirath and Lord Krishna saying that she would lead BJP to victory in the upcoming polls.
"I am being asked by people to introduce Krishna Tirath. She does not need an introduction. The way Lord Krishna has become the charioteer in the battle of Mahabharata she should become a charioteer for the dreams of people so that Lotus (BJP's election symbol) emerges victorious," she said.
Irani urged people to vote shun AAP "as wealth does not come riding on a broom (AAP symbol). It comes sitting on the Lotus (BJP symbol)."
She also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking steps towards empowering people within a few months of assuming office.
"PM Narendra Modi said that the people should be empowered financially. He understands the pain of the poor as he himself has sold tea at a railway station," she said.
