TL polls: BJP's Laxman, Raja Singh, 41 others file nomination

: The BJP Telangana unit president K Laxman and his party colleague Raja Singh were among the48 candidates who filed their nominations on the first fday for the December 7 assembly elections.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar Monday issued the notification for the election.

The notification said nominations would be accepted from November 12 to 19, while the date for scrutiny of papers would be November 20.

The last date for withdrawing the candidature is November 22.

The polls will be held on December 7 and counting would be on December 11.

"As per the latest reports we received from various constituencies, 48 candidates filed their nominations today ( Monday)," Kumar said at a press conference.

Talking to reporters after filing his nomination, Laxman expressed confidence that he and his party would emerge victorious.

His service as an MLA to his Musheerabad constituency and that rendered by BJP MP and former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya would help him win, he said.

Musheerabad falls under Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

Raj Singh is contesting from Goshamahal constituency in the city.

Rajat Kumar, in a press conference said the total number of voters in Telangana as per the latest reports stood at 2.76 crore for the assembly polls.

It was 2.83 crore in the 2014 general elections.

The Election Commission had on Friday imposed a near month-long ban on holding exit polls beginning November 12 in the five poll-bound states, including Telangana.

Rajat Kumar said the polling on December 7 would be held between 7 AM till 5 PM, but for 13 assembly constituencies which are sensitive due to extremist activities, it would be completed one hour earlier (7 AM to 4 PM).

Telangana has 119 assembly seats.

The CEO said 68 general Observers and 53 expenditure observers have been allotted to the state.

Various agencies have so far seized Rs 66.96 crore unauthorised cash and 5.98 crore worth illegal liquor from different parts of the state, he added.
