Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress and J Jayalalithaa's AIADMK, which retained power in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu respectively, today walked away with a major chunk of vote share.

In Assam, where Congress lost power to BJP, the former's vote share was 31 per cent (52,38,665 votes) while the latter got 29.5 per cent share (49,92,185 votes). This is mainly because BJP fought on lesser number of seats as compared to Congress and left some seats for its smaller allies.
