Police said Bikram Gupta, TMC candidate for ward no 3 of Champdani Municipality, went to Bhadreswar police station and surrendered.
The police then arrested him.
The Chandernagore sub-divisional court later remanded him to seven days' jail custody.
Gupta allegedly led a mob that ransacked Champdani police station on April 5 in which five policemen were arrested.
The incident occurred after an altercation between a TMC worker and a policeman over checking papers of his motorbike. Soon, a large number of TMC workers attacked the police outpost and ransacked it, besides damaging three police vehicles.
Champdani Municipality goes to polls on April 25.
