TMC terrorising people in West Bengal's Junglemahal area: BJP

Accusing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of "unleashing terror" in Junglemahal area, the West Bengal unit of the BJP today said people there would give a "befitting reply" to the ruling party in next Lok Sabha polls.

The TMC is trying to "terrorise" Junglemahal people as they had voted against the party in the Panchayat polls, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said.

"The ruling party is trying to suppress the voice of the people," Ghosh told reporters.

The Junglemahal area, comprising forested areas of West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura districts, disturbed the TMC's near-sweep trend in the polls, with the BJP bagging a chunk of the panchayat seats in the region.

The TMC is trying to "wipe out" every sign of opposition from West Bengal, Ghosh alleged.

"Our workers are being killed every day. But we will continue our democratic fight till we end the misrule of the TMC government, he said.

Taking a dig at the TMC's recent comment about winning 42 Lok Sabha seats in next general elections, Ghosh said the ruling party should calculate after keeping aside the four parliamentary constituencies of Junglemahal - Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Medinipur.

Once hit by Maoist insurgency, the three districts of Junglemahal had witnessed violent clashes during the panchayat polls.

Ghosh yesterday met family members of two partymen, who were allegedly killed in the violence.

Days after the results of panchayat polls were declared, two BJP activists - 35-year-old Dulal Kumar and 20-year-old Trilochan Mahato - were also found hanging under mysterious circumstances in Balarampur area of Purulia district.

Demanding a CBI inquiry into the two incidents, the saffron party alleged that the deaths were "political murders" committed by the TMC, a charge denied by the ruling party.

BJP national president Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Purulia on June 27 to hold meetings with district leaders.
