Following the request from the state, the Ministry has asked the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to look into the matter, a senior Ministry official said today.
AAI is managing the Chennai airport, which is also proposed to be privatised. It has invested around Rs 2,500 crore on modernisation and upgrading works.
According to the official, the ministry recently received a request from Tamil Nadu for upgrading the Chennai airport before the global investors' summit in September.
In April, a senior Tamil Nadu government official had said the state expects to attract Rs 1,00,000 crore investment from the summit.
The meet, which was initially scheduled for May, was postponed to September, following requests from overseas investors, who had sought more time to finalise the projects.
