"Global marine terminal operators, DP World, Hutchison Port Holdings Ltd (HPH), APM Terminals, PSA International and Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) -- five of the world's largest port operators, and joined by the Port of Rotterdam Authority (PRA), have launched the first ever joint industry initiative of this magnitude to promote environmental awareness," the ports said in a joint statement.
The campaign will take place between September 14 and 21 with focus on reuse and recycling, climate change and the communities in which the industry giants operate.
The campaign will also identify local partners in the effort to improve the environment.
Creating and upgrading local green spaces, launching educational programmes, adopting waste recycling measures and community engagement are some of the activities that will take place.
The representatives of the companies -- DP World Chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, HPH Group Managing Director Eric Ip, APM Terminals CEO Kim Fejfer, PSA International Group CEO Tan Chong Meng and SIPG Chairman Chen Xuyuan -- welcomed the initiative.
Group CEO of PSA International Tan Chong Meng said that the initiative will act as catalyst to 'greenify' the industry, the communities, and ultimately the world at large.
