Hotels.Com, the global hotel bookings expert, revealed in its latest Hotel Price Index (HPI) that travellers from the South America nation spent the most while staying in India in the first six months of 2016.
On an average, they paid Rs 12,128 in this period, which is 28 per cent higher than the prices paid by tourists from Bolivia in the same period of 2015, it added.
The data is drawn from bookings made on the hundreds of thousands of hotels on the Hotels.Com websites worldwide.
Portugal follows a close second spending on an average Rs 9,111 in India with a 7 per cent jump compared to what the country's travellers spent in the same period in the previous year.
South Africa, at the third spot on the list, has for the very first time in last three years made it to the top 5 with Rs 8,274 (4 per cent up than the previous year) as an average spending.
Travellers spending from Dubai was flat with an average room rate at Rs 7,887, while Singapore saw 3 per cent growth in the average room rate at Rs 7,528.
Meanwhile, travellers from Switzerland and United States both saw a 5 per cent increase in the average room rate at Rs 7,933 and Rs 7,900, respectively.
London, the perennial favourite for Indians, this year witnessed a marginal rise of 1 per cent, taking it three spots up at 11th position with an average room rate of Rs 7,334 compared to the same period in 2015.
Hotels.Com is an online accommodation booking website with properties ranging from international chains and all-inclusive resorts to local favourites and bed and breakfasts.
