Many tourists visiting the state are stranded in their hotel rooms and lodging places as taxis are off the road in most parts of the state.
There were reports of stone pelting in certain areas along the National Highway connecting Guwahati and Silchar through Shillong even as security along the highway have been intensified, a senior government official said.
Many banking institutions remained closed while government offices were partially affected due to the bandh.
In Shillong city, more than 80 per cent of business establishments were closed. There were reports of stone pelting on vehicles at Mawiong area, on the city outskirts and at Umling in Ri-Bhoi district.
Unidentified miscreants tried to torch tyres at Lad Umroi area along the Shillong-Guwahati highway.
In Tura and Jowai towns, shops were closed and vehicular traffic was thin.
"There are no untoward incident during the bandh hours. It seems there is no bandh in the state and everything is normal here," state Director General of Police told PTI.
Meghalaya has no representatives to the Assembly from the BJP or its allies.
