Trade unions to meet in Delhi on May 26 to draw up action plan

Representatives of major trade unions in the country would meet at Delhi on May 26 to chalk out the next phase of action, including a strike, considering the alleged 'anti-labour' policies being adopted by the NDA government, CITU Chief A K Padmanabhan said today.
When the trade unions were demanding amendments to the labour laws favouring the working class, including in organised and unorganised sector, the government was attempting to amend the laws to throttle their rights, Padmanabhan alleged at a press conference here.
Asked to elaborate on the one year rule of the NDA government, he said as far as workers were concerned there was serious attacks on their rights for the past one year.

"... No other government has harmed this much, as a result, the workers will become bonded labourers," he said.
NDA, which came to power on the plank of anti-Congress sentiments, was now pursuing the same policies and implementing the schemes adopted by UPA government, he said.
Since 1991, the basic thread of economic policies was the same, he claimed to a question on Congress criticising the performance of NDA.
"The policies of BJP and Congress remained the same.But BJP was in haste in implementing the policies," he said.
