The incident occurred when Shyam Singh had gone to market to buy grocery and as he was crossing the road in front of Mahendra Puri Gate, he was hit from behind by a speeding dumper, police said.
Singh was rushed to a nearby private nursing home, where he was referred to Yashoda Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, they said.
They said the truck driver managed to escape from the spot.
No FIR has been lodged by the family members of the deceased.
