Traffic police constable beaten up by lawyer

A Delhi Traffic Police constable was today allegedly beaten up by a lawyer outside Rohini court here when he was stopped by the former for driving on the wrong side.
The incident took place around 10.30 AM while Head Constable Santosh was on duty near the Rohini court.
"Santosh flagged down a car driven by Virender Sangwan (29), a lawyer when he saw him approaching Gate No 5 of the court from the wrong side. On being stopped, the lawyer came out of the car and started an argument. He then punched and slapped the policeman," said a police official.

The lawyer also called up three of his colleagues who joined in and also thrashed the traffic policeman. They not just thrashed him and even tore his uniform, he said.
However, locals intervened and cop was rescued while the lawyers went inside the court.
Santosh then reported the incident to the police post inside the court premises and the lawyer was summoned there.

"After preliminary enquiry, an FIR has been registered against the lawyer under Section 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of IPC," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikramjit Singh.

However, Sangwan was not arrested by police in this connection till late evening.
The traffic constable is posted with the Rohini traffic circle while Virender Sangwan is an advocate at the Rohini court in Outer Delhi.
Marking the Police Commemoration Day, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today paid tributes to martyrs of the force.
There have been four such incidents in the last ten days, where four police men including an Assistant Commissioner of Police were attacked.
On Sunday night, two Delhi Police constables were attacked by a group of men, who were confronted for allegedly drinking and gambling in a park in Uttam Nagar area of west Delhi.

On October 13, a constable was gunned down in Vijay Vihar area of outer Delhi. On October 11, three alleged criminals had opened fire on two Delhi Police constables in busy Connaught Place area while ACP Amit Singh, posted with the Special Cell was assaulted by three persons including a woman and a juvenile in a case of road-rage on Thursday.
