Commuters in the national capital are likely to face congestion in the streets for the next two days due to steep increase in traffic volume during the festive season, even as additional personnel shall remain deployed to ensure smooth vehicular flow.
Heavy traffic situation is likely to be witnessed in all approach roads heading towards popular markets in the city that include Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar and Karol Bagh. Traffic snarls are also expected at Old Delhi roads around areas like Chandni Chowk, Chauri Bazar and Dariya Ganj, a traffic police official said.
In the past few days, congestion were reported on the Ring Road stretch in south Delhi, which is used as a route to several markets that include Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar and South Extension. Heavy traffic is also likely to be witnessed on the Ring Road stretch near Rajouri Garden, another popular shoppers' hub , said the official.
Traffic snarls could be witnessed on the outer Ring Road too. In the weekend, severe jams were reported around Nehru Place and shopping hubs further south, near Saket. The traffic flow will get higher as the festival day arrives, said the official.
Commuters who have to pass through ITO junction, Mathura Road and Ashram Chowk may also get stuck in traffic for long hours, and these stretches and junctions better be avoided during the festival time, the official said.
To ensure smooth flow of traffic, additional force will be deployed and the 24-hour helpline has been asked to remain more alert, so that officials can be deployed at specific spots depending upon complaints received, for a real-time solution to traffic woes, he said.
Delhi Traffic Police have also installed around a dozen of CCTV cameras at vital points, including the ITO intersection and near AIIMS, to monitor the traffic situation for the next two days, he added.
