The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is yet to take a call on whom to support in the election to the post of Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, a key party leader said today.

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu yesterday set in motion the process for the election, holding talks on the issue with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar.

Neither the BJP nor the Congress has the required number to win the election for the post, which will fall vacant on July 2 with the retirement of P J Kurien.

Talks are on among the opposition parties to wrest the post, while the BJP has said that it would field its candidate but favours a consensus.

Some opposition parties are of the view that the post should go to a non-BJP, non-Congress party leader and some of them are in touch with the Congress for its support to the proposal.

When asked whether the ruling party in Telangana would go with the BJP or back the opposition candidate, TRS Floor Leader in the Lok Sabha A P Jithender Reddy told PTI, "We have not taken a decision so far."
