Arunachal Pradesh Chief
Minister Nabam Tuki has requested for setting up of an Income Tax office in the state capital for convenience of the people, who have to travel to Assam for tax related issues.
Tuki, who called on chairperson of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, Anita Kapur, at New Delhi today, made the request citing most government officials, both state and central, army and paramilitary personnel and those working in the private sector were facing inconveniences to carry out income tax related business for want of an Income Tax office in the state, an official release said.
He told the chairperson that the state government was in the process of establishing a Central Government Office (CGO) complex in Itanagar, wherein an Income Tax office could also be accommodated.
Tuki said the state government would allot land for the CGO complex and would be constructed under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Urban Development.
Even though the predominant tribal populace of the state was exempted from Income Tax, Tuki pointed that a sizable population of non-tribal people was based in Arunachal Pradesh, besides a lot of investment was happening in several sectors like hydro-power, tourism and infrastructure, the release said.
"To cater to these categories of tax payers, the Board may kindly establish an Income Tax office in Arunachal Pradesh," the Chief Minister requested.
Responding to the request, Kapur assured the Board would look into the matter and initiate the process for establishing an office in Itanagar, the release added.
