Tur dal will be available at Rs 135/kg in Gujarat

As the rising pulses prices has become a big political issue, the Gujarat government today said whole-sellers and retailers have agreed to sell tur dal at Rs 135 per kg in the state.
Prices of different kinds of dal - tur, moong, udid have substantially increased, creating problems for the common man ahead of the festive season. Tur dal is being sold at around Rs 200 per kg in Gujarat.
The government also imposed stock ban for whole-sellers and retailers for dal.
Gujarat minister for food, civil supply and consumer affairs Bhupendrasinh Chudasama made the announcement after holding a meeting with Gujarat's leading whole-sellers as well as retailers of pulses.

After the meeting, aimed at controlling the price rise, Chudasama also announced that government has taken a decision to impose stock limit of pulses as part of their endeavour to control further price rise.
"Respecting state government's request about reducing the price rise, all the whole-sellers and retailers have agreed to sell tur dal for Rs 135 per kg. Now, people of Gujarat will get tur dal at this rate only. I thank all the merchants to give a positive response to our appeal," he said.

The minister also took a dig at Congress, which had earlier announced to hold state-wide agitation against government on this issue.

"Our friends in Congress talks about doing protests. But, we have already slashed the price by around Rs 60. Such sudden decrease in price, that of Rs 60, probably never happened in the past," claimed Chudasama.
"To stabilise the prices of dals, we have also decided to put a cap on stocks of all kinds of dals, under which, a wholeseller cannot store more than 1,000 quintals while a retailer cannot stock more than 50 quintals," Chudasama added.
