Anil Tigga, who was employed by the Believers Church at Umsaw in the East Khasi Hills district was arrested from his hometown two days back along with his brother Pankhrasius Tigga and Rs 13 lakh in cash was recovered from them, East Khasi Hills district SP M Kharkrang said.
He said an account in a nationalised bank opened by the duo and having Rs 20 lakh as balance was also frozen.
According to the SP, the accused had provided a false address to the church.
Acting on a tip off the accused was arrested from Parmer village on December 27 and Rs 13 lakh in cash was recovered with the help of Kapu Police Station (Chattisgarh), the SP said.
His brother was also arrested for abetting the crime and both were produced in the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Dharam Jagad, who granted transit remand for the accused persons, Kharkrang said adding, investigation were on.
