SHO Muradnagar Ummed Yadav told that car driver, P K Aggarwal, was traveling from Delhi towards Meerut.
On reaching village Duhai he lost his control over steering as a result of which his car jumped the road divider and collided head-on against the CNG tempo coming from Murdanagar towards Ghaziabad, police said.
Due to high-speed collision an explosion took place in the tempo's CNG tank and fire engulfed the tempo.
Another woman passenger 21-year-old Kanta and the car driver P K Aggarwal sustained severe injuries, they said.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital, they added.
Bodies of Sonu and Rajwati have been sent for postmortem.
An FIR has been registered against car driver P K Aggarwal for rash and negligent driving under various sections of IPC, police said.
Police have arrested Aggarwal who is now under custody at hospital, said SHO.
