Two militants were killed today in an encounter with security forces on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, about 12 kms from here, in Pampore, police said.
The gunbattle erupted after militants travelling in a pick-up van opened fire at security personnel at a security picket on being signalled to stop, police said.
The area was immediately cordoned off and in the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed, police said.
Security forces had set up a temporary check post at Sempora in Pampore area on the highway following information that some militants could be travelling from Anantnag district to Srinagar.
