Two petrol pumps challaned in a surprise check

Two petrol pumps in the city have been challaned for discrepancies in measurement in dispensing of petrolum products during a crackdown against supply of adulterated petrol and diesel by the Delhi government.
The surprise inspections were carried out by Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs of the Delhi government during a drive to check adulteration and malpractices in dispensing of petroleum products at pumps across the national capital.
According to officials, six teams were constituted for simultaneous surprise inspections of petrol pumps under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and which conducted checks at petrol pumps at Majnu ka Tilla, Ghevra, Vikaspuri, Jasola, Dhansa border and Mayur Vihar.

Officials claimed that challans were issued on the spot to two petrol pumps for discrepancies in measurement and unavailability of verification certificate by the staff of the petrol pump.
"Each team comprised of four members and was headed by an Assistant Commissioner (Food & Supply). Teams checked density, quantity of the products and also took sample for further action," a senior official said, adding such checks would continue over the next few weeks.
