Two employees of Tata Steel including a woman, who had set off to conquer world's highest peak Mount Everest in the first week of April, are safe and based at camp II (at around 22,000 ft), said the Chief of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, Bachendri Pal.
Pal, the first woman to conquer the Mount Everest told PTI that Hemant Gupta, an IITian from Mumbai who joined Tata Steel as a Management Trainee but opted to work in Tata Steel Adventure program department since 2013, and a woman employee Payo Murmu, a Loco Traffic Ground staff in Raw Material division of the company are safe.
Pal, who had seen off the mountaineers in Kathmandu and returned said another team of the company reached the base camp in Kathmandu where a powerful earthquake occurred.
"I am in constant touch with the agency people handling the mountaineer and they told me both the mountaineers are safe and reached camp II at a height of over 22,000 ft", she said.
As there was no network at the higher point of Everest, the mountaineers were being contacted through wireless from the base camp, she said adding there were other mountaineers from several countries as well.
Meanwhile, the expedition kicked off on April 6 after Gupta and Murmu landed in Lukla in Nepal.
