Two persons including a woman were trampled to death by wild elephants in Kamrup and Sonitpur districts of Assam.
One person was killed by wild elephants at Bongora village in Rani Reserve Forest near Guwahati today when he went there to collect firewood, official sources said.
The victim was identified as a resident of Mirza town, the sources said.
In another incident, a herd of about 70 wild jumbos came from the jungles of Arunachal Pradesh last night and entered a labour line (quarters) in a tea estate at Tengabari, under Goghpur police station along the inter-state border.
The elephants destroyed several thatched houses and then trampled to death a woman.
Some elephants, who were separated from the herd, created havoc in different tea gardens in Gohpur and damaged houses in search of food and country liquor.
The forest department was making efforts to guide the elephants back to the jungles so that they did not enter human habitations and destroy houses, they added.
