Tyagi, Pawan Varma, Harivansh in Nitish's new JD(U) team

Senior Janata Dal (United) leader K C Tyagi was named its secretary general, while diplomat- politician Pawan Kumar Varma and journalist-politician Harivansh were made general secretaries in the team of the party's new president Nitish Kumar.
The list of office-bearers, which was released today with Kumar's signature, names nine general secretaries including K C Tyagi- who has also been named as secretary general- six secretaries and a treasurer.
Tyagi, the party's visible face outside Bihar, retained his position as secretary-general in the team of the previous JD(U) president Sharad Yadav.
Kumar's close confidant and JD(U) Rajya Sabha member Ram Chandra Prasad Singh has been made general secretary (organisation), said Ravindra Prasad Singh, who will be its new national secretary.
The new JD(U) team saw inclusion of three members Pawan Kumar Varma and Harivansh, a Rajya Sabha member, and Verghese George of Kerala, while six others who were office-bearers during Sharad Yadav's tenure have been retained, he said.
Arun Kumar Srivastava, Javed Raza, Shyam Rajak, Maulana Ghulam Rasool Baliyavi are other general secretaries.
Kumar had taken over the reins of the party from Sharad Yadav in April. His election was ratified at JD(U)'s two-day national council meet at Rajgir last month.
Apart from Ravindra Prasad Singh, who has been elevated to the post of national secretary from a general secretary of the state unit, five others - Ramsewak Singh, Vidya Sagar Nishad (legislators), Virendra Singh Vidhuri, Afaque Ahmad Khan and M B Shreyans Kumar would be the other national secretaries.
Kaushalendra Kumar, a Lok Sabha member from Kumar's home district of Nalanda, has been made the party treasurer.
Meanwhile, former BSP MLA Hriday Narayan Singh today joined the party along with his hundreds of supporters here at party's headquarters in the presence of state unit chief Bashishtha Narayan Singh.
Bihar JD(U) chief said the party would be benefitted and strengthened in Shahabad region with Singh joining it.
