The UK's first cat cafe in the north has opened to an overwhelming demand from feline lovers with more than 1,000 bookings within days of its launch.
'Mog on the Tyne', the North East's very first cat cafe, has opened to the public in the heart of Newcastle and can welcome 20 guests at a time.
"We took more than 1,000 bookings in the first few days of the booking system going live. I knew that North East people love cats and the idea of the cat cafe but that took us by surprise, and we're so pleased," said Katie Jane Glazie, founder of the cafe.
Katie, who spent over a year bringing her dream business to life, is delighted that cat lovers can finally drop in for a coffee, cake and plenty of attention from the resident furry family.
"It's been fantastic - nerve-wracking and exciting but brilliant to finally open after all this time. We might have been nervous but the cats are really calming and soothing," Katie, 28, said.
"The cats have settled in just brilliantly. Nothing seems to faze them and they are a proper little family now. They've been here for almost a month so we've got them used to people coming in and out of the building," Katie was quoted as saying by chroniclelive.Co.Uk.
The cafe's menu has a kitty theme with Catte Lattes, Catacinos and Pawninis as well as cakes.
The staff, all trained in cat welfare, continually observes the cats' behaviour throughout the day. If any of the cats shows signs they are unhappy they can be taken to a 'chill out' area downstairs, it said.
Cat cafes first appeared in Japan where they are massively popular, mainly because city dwellers do not have space to keep pets of their own.
