Ukhand to demand Rs 888 cr for losses caused by heavy rains

Uttarakhand government will demand Rs 888 crore from the Centre as compensation for the losses suffered in several parts of the state due to heavy rains this monsoon, an official statement said today.
Chief Secretary Shatrughna Singh held a meeting with the heads of different departments to assess the losses suffered by them separately due to the prolonged spell of heavy rains this seasonand asked them to prepare a comprehensive estimate to be sent to the Centre.
The estimate to be submitted before the Centre will include Rs 254 crore suffered by the transport department, Rs 200 crore for education department, Rs 128 crore of drinking water, Rs 72 crore of irrigation, Rs 69 crore of minor irrigation, Rs 44 crore of agriculture, the statement said.
The estimate also include Rs 31 crore of power department, Rs 25 crore of Panchayati Raj, Rs 23 crore of forest, Rs 8 crore of Home department, Rs 4 crore of women 's welfare besides Rs 1.50 crore each of the Animal Husbandry, Health and Tourism departments, it said.
