A head of an ashram here has alleged that she has received an extortion demand of Rs 1 crore, police said today.
On the complaint of Mahashakti Pith ashram chief Sadhvi Yogniman Rajaneshvari, a case was registered yesterday at Bhopa police station, Superintendent of Police (SP), Rural, Ajay Sahdev, said.
The complainant said she has received a letter in which the sender demanded Rs 1 crore and threatened to kill her if she failed to pay the amount, he said.
The sender is yet to be identified, the SP said, adding that this is the second letter the sadhvi has received.
Last month, she had lodged a complaint, saying unknown people had demanded she pay extortion money by June 15, police said.
The matters are being investigated, Sahdev said.
