An order of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs declining prosecution sanction against suspended IPS officer M S Jaffar Sait, facing a corruption case, was filed in the Madras High Court today.
Central Government Standing Council Bhavani filed the order before Justice V Dhanapalan, who adjourned the matter to January 7 next year.
Jaffar Sait, who was IG intelligence from 2007-2011 during DMK rule, is facing a case registered by Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption after the change of regime.
He had filed a plea to stay all the proceedings pending against him on the ground that being an IPS Officer governed by the All India Service Rules, sanction to prosecute him is required under Section 19 of the Act.
Tamil Nadu government then forwarded a proposal to the Ministry of Home affairs, New Delhi, to accord prosecution sanction against him.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs today filed an order of rejection of sanction to prosecute him saying there was not enough evidence against him in the case.
