Hundreds of students from several colleges of Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia University, IP University and others, thronged to the historic Red Fort in large numbers to hear Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech on Independence Day.
Students, who came in groups, were excited to see Modi unfurling the national flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
Krishan Pratap, a Political science (Hons.)student from Zakir Husain College of Delhi University, said he liked the way Modi delivered his extempore speech.
"I along with my ten classmates came here to hear only Narendra Modi. As there was also a free ride for the general public, we made a plan and came here. We are very happy to witness the I-Day celebration at Red Fort," Pratap said.
As soon as the Prime Minister's cavalcade arrived at the venue, thousands of youths from the general public rose to get a glimpse of the glittering cars with thunderous applause.
Rukhsar, a Journalism student from Jamia Millia Islamia University, was among the youths who were excited to be at the venue.
"Before today, I never came to Red Fort to attend any I-Day programme. As Modi is popular especially among the youths and he is also my favourite, I decided to hear his speak
and see him unfurling national flag from the ramparts of Red Fort," Rukshar said.
Youth kept cheering and clapping jubilantly.
"I heard Modi's speech talking about the welfare of farmers and developments of the country, which I liked. His speech was tremendous and I hope that under his leadership, India will proceed very well," Priya Rathore, a student of IP College, who along with her three friends came to Red Fort, said.
