In separate press conferences, state unit presidents of BJP Laxmi Kant Bajpai and RLD Munna Singh Chauhan said the support price for sugarcane should have been announced much earlier.
The crushing season in state sugar mills should have been in full swing by now, they said.
Though the SP government has recently announced waiver of farmers' loans worth Rs 1,650 crore, sufficient budgetary allocation for the same has not been made, Bajpai said.
A provision of Rs 500 crore was made in the general budget, whereas in the supplementary budget passed yesterday it was Rs 400 crore on this head, Bajpai said asking as to how the government plans to arrange the remaining Rs 750 crore.
