"Legal action would be taken against unauthorised encroachment," Uttar Pradesh Minister for irrigation Dharm Pal Singh said.
He said of the 3,65,554 hectares of land illegally occupied by people, 1,028 hectares has been reclaimed and the process of reclaiming is on.
However, ownership rights would be given to very poor, after realising fine from him, if he has established his hut in 100 or 150 meters of area, where canal water had not reached since long, he said yesterday.
Department has decided to revive committees of Kulaba, Alpika and Rajwaha, defunct since long, in order to streamline system of irrigation, he disclosed.
FIR would be registered against the farmers who are directly taking water through Kulaba illegally, he warned.
