Pandemonium prevailed in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly today with Opposition parties alleging irregularities in the recent police recruitment drive, forcing adjournment for over an hour.
The members also demanded a CBI or judicial probe into the matter.
The issue came up as soon as the House assembled this morning with Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya of BSP joined by members of BJP, RLD and Congress pressed for taking up the matter.
When the Speaker disallowed it, they barged into the well of the House. Later, BSP and Congress staged a walkout.
In the zero hour, the issue came up again through an adjournment notice moved by the BJP and Congress, whose notice was converted into the adjournment notice.
BJP's Satish Mahana and Suresh Khanna, Congress' Anugrah Narain Singh, RLD's Dalbir Singh and Ved Pal Rathi, and Swami Prasad Maurya while alleging large scale irregularities demanded the entire recruitment process be cancelled till the completion of judicial or CBI inquiry.
Mahana said that barring four districts, the youth in the state are on the streets for justice as the process adopted for it was flawed.
While demanding that the process for recruitment of 41,610 constables and 4,010 sub-inspectors be made public, Khanna alleged that the government has betrayed the youth.
Rathi alleged that in two districts over 33,000 youths have been recruited in the drive in which a particular caste has been given preference.
Calling Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan "Bhishma Pitamah", Rathi questioned his silence on the matter.
Maurya alleged that though the government claims to be pro-youth, there had been corruption in the recruitment drive.
"In general, the answer sheets where blades or whiteners are used in examinations are cancelled but not here.. Those faring badly in written exams are called for physical test," he said, demanding either a judicial or CBI probe into it and action against members of the recruitment board.
