Federal agents have charged four people in Iowa with conspiring to illegally ship a large amount of guns and ammunition to Lebanon.
A criminal complaint unsealed today shows agents intercepted cargo containers bound for Lebanon last week containing 152 firearms and more than 15,000 rounds of ammunition. Some of them were hidden among clothes and other supplies being sent to Syrian refugees.
Investigators say the four purchased the firearms from Iowa dealers over the past several months. They were due in court last afternoon.
The suspects were identified as: brothers Ali Herz and Bassem Herz; Adam Herz, who is Ali Herz's son; and Sarah Zeaiter, who is Bassem Herz's wife.
A gun store owner alerted authorities about the four in February after they purchased guns and all his store's ammunition.
