Jointly organised by TERI and Yale University, the two-day summit scheduled on May 13-14, will be addressed by former US Vice President Al Gore, India's National Innovation Council Chairman and adviser to the PM Sam Pitroda, Indian Ambassador to the US Nirupama Rao and TERI president RK Pachauri, among others, organisers said yesterday.
"Recent developments in the US, including exploitation of shale gas reserves and other technological achievements, along with India's efforts in the field of renewable energy provide a unique opportunity to work closely together in solving their respective energy problems and enhancing energy security for the world as a whole," Pachauri said.
Corporate leaders from both countries will discuss on how mutual cooperation on energy issues can lead to competitive advantage in domestic and global markets.
The key-note address will be delivered by Sam Pitroda, while Al Gore will give a special address at the 'Eve of Hope', the curtain raiser of the summit.
TERI's global campaign 'Lighting a Billion Lives', which endeavors to provide clean lighting and cook-stoves to remote corners of rural India and other countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa having no access to electricity, will also be focused in the summit.
