The woman identified as Barno Jurayaba (35) reached India via Nepal in 2014. Since then, she has been living in various cities and finally arrived in Bhopal on December 6 after coming in contact with a Bengali man.
The man promised her to get the visa papers and arranged her stay in Jatkhedi area here, Additional SP, Rajesh Bhadoria said.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Barno on December 9 and produced her in a court yesterday which sent her in judicial custody till December 24, under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act, the officer said.
Even the validity of her visa papers for Nepal ended in August 2014.
Police will inform Uzbekistan Embassy officials on the issue.
